The Joint Venture Board of the Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show (Mystery Creek) have decided to reschedule the planned show of 14th – 16th October 2011 to 2012.

This decision has been made early in the response to the Joint Venture Board’s belief that marine industry companies will have significant promotional opportunities through the Rugby World Cup 2011 festival of events throughout New Zealand and the Auckland International Boat Show during September/October. With this year’s increased events, organisers appreciate potential exhibitors may struggle to include a presence at the Waikato Boat Fishing and Leisure Show. It is also acknowledged that some companies have been adversely affected by the Christchurch earthquake and their energies and resources are focussed on restoring their capability in that regard.

The Joint Venture Board are now planning for a new look Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show in 2012 when the industry looks to capitalise on the cash injection to New Zealand’s economy from the Rugby World Cup and the rural sector following a couple of years of good farming returns.

Advice of the planned dates for 2012 will be advised in the near future.

The WBFLS Joint Venture Board includes the NZ Marine Marine Industry Association; who also organise the Auckland International Boat Show.

2010 Show wraps up

October 17, 2010 | 1 Comment

The gates closed on the 8th annual Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show at Mystery Creek Events Centre today with 9,811 visitors over the three day event. A joint venture between the NZ Marine Industry Association and Mystery Creek Events Centre; the Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show is designed to showcase the marine and leisure industry. The only marine event of its kind in the Waikato, the show provides an opportunity for potential buyers to compare brands and models, meet their region’s merchants and check out the industry’s latest developments.

Organisers set realistic visitor traffic expectations and were satisfied with the weekend’s turnout. Last month’s Tauranga Boat and Leisure Show, held every two years, attracted 7,000 over three days. In contrast, the 2009 Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show experienced crowds of nearly 13,000; being the only marine event for the Bay of Plenty and Waikato.

The build up to the Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show surpassed prior years with businesses snapping up sites earlier than before. The marine marketplace is a competitive environment; therefore exhibitors put an enormous effort into their displays to attract public interest, furnishing exhibitions with an impressive range of marine craft and equipment.

Exhibitors are all too familiar with the economic challenges facing consumers, so although they welcome a lift in sales, it isn’t their sole objective at the show. Building relationships and getting their brand in front of the show’s captive audience is fundamental. The Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show 2010 campaign focussed on attracting staunch boat and fishing enthusiasts that would deliver value to exhibitors. The Exhibitor Survey, where businesses are asked to share their sales objectives and results from the show, will reveal whether the approach was effective; responses will be collated over the next few weeks.

The 2011 Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show will be held Friday 14 to Sunday 16 October at Mystery Creek Events Centre, Hamilton.

Back in 2004 Australia’s GME revolutionised the marine safety world with the award winning MT400 406 MHz EPIRB. The MT400 concept, evolutionary design and price point set a new standard in beacon design and became the benchmark to which all other manufactures aspired.

Now some six years later GME has once again upped the ante with the introduction of remarkable MT406G, a totally compliant Class 2 EPIRB
with a fully integrated 16 Channel GPS receiver for the amazing recommended retail price of $NZ 649 including GST.

The key benefits of a GPS equipped EPIRB, are faster detection by the geo-stationary satellites, typically less than ten minutes anywhere in Australia or New Zealand. Non GPS beacons using low earth orbiting satellites can take up to two hours to detect an emergency signal depending on the time of day and position.

The second and arguably the most important attribute of a GPS equipped EPIRB like the MT406G is the accuracy of the beacons
position; by transmitting latitude and longitudinal coordinates as part of the emergency message; search and rescue authorities can pinpoint the distress message down to around 100 metres, as opposed to 5 kilometres with a standard non-GPS EPIRB. In a true emergency scenario this combination of rapid alerting and a precise location could well be the difference between successful rescue and a family tragedy.

GME has been designing and building EPIRBs in Australia for over 35 years, the company is now one of the largest manufactures of EPIRBs and PLBs in the world, with product being exported to more than 40 countries. So don’t be deterred by the budget price, the MT406G utilises the latest microprocessor based technology, is engineered to the exacting Australian/New Zealand 4280.1 EPIRB standard, and is backed by GME’s legendary 6 year warranty.

The MT406G will be available from October through GME’s national distribution network. For additional information visit www.gme.net.au or call the NZ sales office 09 274 0955.

GME are located at Site: PO53-54

A joint venture between the NZ Marine Industry Association and Mystery Creek Events Centre, the popularity of the Waikato Boat, Fishing & Leisure Show was evident in 2009 which boasted an increased attendance of 13,000 visitors. Being the only event of its kind in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato area last year had obvious benefits, but despite this year’s Tauranga show; the speed at which sites filled exceeded 2009 with businesses snapping up sites earlier, revealing the Waikato show’s significance to the industry.

With over 120 businesses on site, exhibitors include; Rollo’s Marine, Andrew Fink Marine, Fish City, Tristram Marine, Viking Kayaks and Cambridge Marine. The broad range of products, equipment and supporting services on display provides the ideal opportunity to compare brands and the deals on offer.

Last year marked the launch of ‘Innovation Court’; an exhibition area displaying inventions designed to address challenges encountered by marine enthusiasts. Products displayed in this area are typically right out of the ‘innovator’s shed’, often prior to entering mass production and going to market.

In addition to the immense selection of exhibitors, a variety of activities and demonstrations will also be on display. The Mystery Creek Events Centre Lake will host the return of M-I-A’s wakeboarding demonstrations. Those keen to gain some hot tips & tricks can expect great advice from fishing expert Adam Clancy, who will be sharing his expertise outside the Think Tank area. Also on offer is a selection of demonstrations by an assortment of local hobby clubs.

Back by popular demand, Environment Waikato is facilitating a boating and water safety youth programme on Friday. Into its second year, this critical youth water safety campaign is executed by a range of key organisations and consists of six modules including; Safe Boating with Coastguard Boating Education and River Safety with Mighty River Power & Water Safety New Zealand.

Its no secret that more and more pets owners worldwide are opting to take their pets with them on holiday, I am one of them. Every summer we hit the water for long weekends or the christmas holidays and we always take the dogs boating with us, whenever we are on the water so are the dogs and almost every second yacht or launch out there seems to have their dog/s with them too.
This presents some challenges though. Many islands are off limits to dogs which makes toileting a problem and safety is another major issue.

At Furr Kids we have sourced some of the best products from around the globe to make boating with your pet easier and safer.  On display at the Waikato Boat, Fishing and Leisure show Furr Kids will be showing off:

  • The Doggy Boat Ladder – The Doggy Boat Ladder provides a great way for you to enjoy the water with your pet. This unique dog ladder provides an easy exit, so your pet reduces the risk of seriously straining or injuring joints. Your pet will find it easy for him to get out of the water and back aboard.
  • Dog Life Jackets – Paws Aboard Pet Life Jacket and Designer Pet Life Jackets provide ultimate buoyancy and high visibility to keep pets safe on the water. Perfect for boating, kayaking, jet skiing, paddle boarding or just for confidence in the water for chest heavy breeds.  The Pet Life Jacket is excellent aid for water rehabilitation after surgery or for older dogs.
  • PupHead Dog Toilet – “The Original Portable Dog Potty” is a three-part system that includes Authentic Pup-Grass™, a specially engineered artificial turf that contains antimicrobial properties and allows for instant drainage of liquids. A perforated drainage grate keeps liquids separate from the grass.  Eliminate those early morning toilet runs, or having to park in a bay where you can take your dog ashore.
